The Mission of the Summit

While the San Diego County Water Authority imports approximately 90% of the region's water supply from the Sierras and the Colorado River, population growth throughout the Southwest and climate change are increasing the demand on these water sources.

In response, the Water Authority is developing a diverse local water supply for San Diego County.  By 2030, conservation is expected to provide 100,000 acre feet of water -- 12% of the region's water supply and enough water to meet the needs of 200,000 households.

To reach our 2030 goal, we will have to save twice the amount of water we are currently saving through conservation (45,330 AF in FY 2004-05).
